The Family Tree supports the full temple process!

17 Mar 2009 by Tim Cross

In Folders, from the Summary tab, in the Temple Ordinances section, we can:

  • Check for and resolve duplicates with ordinances.  Always check this before clicking SUBMIT.
  • Enter Ordinances Manually.  If duplicates aren’t showing up and you know the work has been performed, click this link to report the ordinances.
  • Submit the ordinances to your Temple Tracking Page.  Note, this simply reserves the name and ordinances on the Temple tab.  Click on the Temple tab at the top of the page to continue the temple process — print FOR, etc.

In the Temple tab we can:

  • Print temple cards (Family Ordinance Request – FOR) if you want to perform the ordinances yourself.
  • Assign names to the temple if you want the temple to allow someone else to perform the ordinances.

Where is there a place to put in ordinances manually? We have the finished temple card on a family member, but it is not showing up as done or as a duplicate… is there a way to input it manually or do we need the temple to do that?

  2. Tim Says:

For an ancestor who has “Ready” temple status, on the Summary tab, to the right of the Temple Ordinances section header is a link — “Enter Ordinances Manually.” Patrons are able to enter the ordinances manually.

  3. David Coppin Says:

It appears that the process to print an FOR involves checking the box on the far left, but that it also then requests ALL available ordinances for that person. When will the feature be added making it possible to print the FOR with a request for only some of the ordinances at a time, as we can now do on NFS? If I want to print 100 requests for baptism and confirmation in order to take my grandchildren to the temple for baptisms, I may not want to be inundated with 100 cards for endowments that I may not be able to complete in a timely fashion.

  4. Bryce Fifield Says:

Does the current release allow us to enter names of family members or ancestors or are we supposed to do that some other way?

  5. Tim Cross Says:

We haven’t introduced the feature to specify specific ordinances yet. That seems to be a desirable feature.

The Family Tree doesn’t support adding information yet. This can be done in new.familysearch.org and then reflected in the Family Tree.

You mentioned above “In Folders, from the Summary tab, in the Temple Ordinances section, we can:

    * Check for and resolve duplicates with ordinances. Always check this before clicking SUBMIT.”

I do not see where we can check for and resolve duplicates before clicking the SUBMIT button?

  7. Virginia Chatwin Says:

I used Family Tree to submit names for the temple. It did not go through a procedure looking for duplicates like it does in new family search. If any duplicates were found would it have brought them up like it does in New Family Search?

  8. Kathy Fotens Says:

I am concerned with the feature of adding manually ordinance information that may or may not be supported. Won’t this cause more problems if we add unvalidated ordinance information. Before this information is added in nfs is there a verification process that Salt Lake is involved in.

  9. Bridget Jordan Says:

Sometimes when the Ordinances are Ready, the Review request will show up for possible duplicates and other times it won’t show. Does this mean that there are no duplicates in the system when it doesn’t appear above the Submit button?

I went into the Folders section of the family tree, clicked on Summary and went down to the temple ordinances. Tip #9 says you can “Enter manually” by clicking on temple ordinance title. When I clicked on the temple ordinance title I did not get any Enter manually. The temple ordinances are listed as in progress and unavailable for sealing to spouse. This person is my father and all the ordinances were completed 14 years ago. I tried everything and could not get any Enter manually to come up.

I still get the link to install Adobe and I already have it. Why can’t I get into the search page??????????????
    getting frustrated!

  12. Ron Tanner Says:

Entering ordinances manually can be accomplished by pressing the “Enter ordinances manually” link to the right of the Temple Ordinances label under the Summary tab of the person in their folder. When pressed, it will bring up a screen that allows you to put in a date and temple for each of the ordinances.

Currently patron submitted ordinances are 99% accurate. As we complete putting all of the ordinances in the system the “Enter ordinances manually” feature may change somewhat as we expect all ordinances will be present.

  13. Ron Tanner Says:

With possible duplicates for ordinances we have done a pre-filtering of possible duplications that have ordinances. This list is usually much smaller than the full possible duplicates list.

The purpose for resolving duplicates during temple submission is to find out if these ordinances have already been done and not to resolve any duplicates that may be in the system. We felt that this was necessary to reduce duplicate ordinances but was not necessarily the place to resolve all duplicates throughout the tree.

If there are no possible duplicates that have ordinances, then the possible duplicates on the temple tab will go away – even if there are possible duplicates in the system. This is why sometimes you will see this and other times you will not.

  14. Bryce Fifield Says:

The way the system is checking for ordinance duplicates is very helpful to know. It means that we have to be extra diligent at checking and correcting duplicates BEFORE we move on to submitting for ordinances.

  15. Jennifer Says:

I really enjoy Labs familysearch but I can not add information to my family/ancestors. Will this be resolved soon?

    Thank you very much.

  16. Ron Tanner Says:

Jennifer, yes. We are working to provide this capability. Keep checking back – we hope to have this sometime next month.

    Thanks,

My latest submission (done during a trip to the main FHL) froze on their characteristically slow server, and now all the submitted ordinances show as [Printed] in green, even though no FOR was rendered to .pdf. Now, I have no way of reproducing the submission, as it was a cleanup pick-through of my entire list. I need to reproduce the FOR, but this capability seems to have been lost. Where does the database store the FORs for my login? There should be an easy way to view or reprint “Past Submissions”. For now, I am stuck waiting 2-3 years until the rest of my work moves, and I reconstitute the FOR from old “Green” records that have not moved.
