What would your life look like on a map? Perhaps you visited another country, or an ancestral town in another part of the world, took a vacation a thousand miles away from home, or maybe you have never set foot outside of your home state! Thanks to a GoogleMaps, mapping a life can make genealogy even more intriguing, and can make planning research trips a snap.

What is “Life Mapping?”

One of the most interesting features of the FamilySearch Tree is the opportunity to see life events on a map. This doesn’t just include birth, marriage, and death, rather you can include road trips, vacations, accidental detours, and every other interesting travel you may have experienced in your life. You may also see events of ancestors and relatives.

Involve Children!

Mapping a life on FamilySearch Tree is simple, and fun. It can also be a great way to get children involved and excited in family vacations: Before taking a trip, look at ancestral life maps to see if you will pass by an ancestral birthplace or cemetery. After each trip, allow children to tag their latest journey on their own personal life map! Click “Add information” at the bottom of the “Map” view on the FamilySearch Tree, select “Other” under “Personal Facts,” and continue to add details about a specific location and event. Family History will never be quite the same again for your family!

One Response to “Mapping a Life on FamilySearch”

  1. I can’t find that option on the new FamilySearch Family Tree published on labs. Are you sure is there? The mapping feature is one of the most welcomed ones to be there, since right now is only available on the new FamilySearch.
